The Hi Point 9mm carbine is fun to shoot. It seems to eat any kind of cheap ammo without indigestion. No need to clean it after every trip to the range.
The pistol grip is so fat that it I have to twist my hand around a bit to hit the magazine release. It could have easily been built to accommodate double stack mag but I am sure that was not done so that stupid 10-round mag limits would not be exceeded..
Slide lock is very simple in operation but not necessarily simple to operate manual lock back (something about pushing the knob in just does not come natural to me). Well, it is an inexpensive carbine so I did not expect all the finer points and can absolutely live with that. And really, don’t lock back manually, just empty the magazine 😎
Bottom line: it is relatively cheap & fun way to punch some holes in paper. I have been tempted to use it for punching holes in nearby groundhogs.

first let me say that I bought this rifle strictly based on customer reviews. that being said it was all that i had read about, after about 20 rounds to get the scope dialed in. at 100 yards almost dead center every time, hardly any recoil, no FTF or FTE after 100 rounds at the range. only one complaint, if you happen to be left handed the mag release is at the top of the grip on the left side, so, squeeze in the wrong place and the mag drops out. fun to shoot nicely accurate and very comfortable to shoot all day.

The gun is perfect! I can’t say anything bad about it.

Well, I still haven’t shot this thing, but I figured I better leave a review, for what it’s worth. Gun looks very solid, and very good quality for the price. I have two Hi Point pistols, and they work great. At the time I ordered this, the model with the small scope was the only one at list price – all other models were above list at ukrguns – so that’s what I ordered. Demand was very high at that time, so I considered myself lucky to get one. That is a complaint I have towards ukrguns – pricing guns (or anything) above MSRP because of a panic doesn’t really sit well with me. Hey, charge ;list if you feel like it, but not ABOVE list. Luckily, this model was available at list. And Cheaper than Dirt was FAR FAR worse. Even at list, however, it’s a very good deal. The short length feels very good. I’m expecting good things at the range. You only get one mag, so extra mags will be an added expense. WARNING: The Hi Point site and some Hi Point literature say aftermarket ProMag magazines will void the warranty of the gun – they can permanently damage the gun somehow. For what it’s worth. I’m giving this fine gun a five star rating, and ukrguns panic pricing policy 2.5 stars.

This Hi-Point 995 is “AWESOME”, it”s no AR15, but for the money it’s perfect for home defence the short barrel is easy to move around in tight quarters and if you have a 9MM pistol all the better, even if your primary hand gun is a 1911, the Hi-Point Carbine comes in 45 cal. This is my second purchase from ukrguns and both were lay-aways and though they DO NOT notify you by eMail like they say they will, the processing time is quick and easy. Getting back to the 995, for the money this carbine is allot of fun, sights were dead on out of the box, I had no problems going thru about one hundred rounds, would have shot more but it was too cold, I just HAD to see if what I read about all the good reviews were correct, and believe me they are. If you want a dead on target from one hundred yards carbine, this is the gun for you, and it’s made in the good old U.S.A.

Just one fun little carbine !! 500 rounds through it so far and only ONE FTE ! Have not put the scope on it as of yet, and probably will not. The “peep sights” are very good and with some minor adjustments, accurate at both 50 and 100 yards. It aint pretty, but it’s a blast to shoot. Made in America!! buy it, you won’t go wrong !

Good, fun, solid gun for the money you pay for it. Fun for plinking and shoots well enough to do more than just plinking. Fun gun overall. Well worth the money.

First gun bought from Buds, everything went smooth and rifle was recieved at my local gun shop quickly 4 days. The Hipoint 9mm was as advertised . Nice little gun shot 150rds thru it without a problem. Very accurate at 50yrds , hit the target at 100yrd but all over the place. All in all great little American made carbine. Its a hoot to shoot for the price!

Fun shooter. Pretty accurate out of the box. I bought this with the 4x scope. Bad idea. I put a reflex red dot on it that we had laying around. The only negative is the top pic rail, very flimsy. So much so that the scope felt loose, no mater how tight you crank it. The reflex is smaller and lighter. We bore sighted it at home and had it dialed in the next day at the range. We put 150 rds thru it and we were getting a 3-4″ grouping at 50 yds. Not bad for 9mm. We had zero problems running cheap ammo thru 10 rd factory mags.

Awesome, and even at 100 yards I am doing pretty good with this carbine. from the zero to 50 yards I can take the head off a target without a problem. Love this and will be getting another in the 40 size. And of course ukrguns rocked it out of the park with superior service and great prices.

I received my 9mm carbine last week, and was able to take it out this past Saturday shooting with my wife. After the first shot, she loved it and informed me it was now hers. 🙂 She allowed me to shoot “her” new gun, and I too think it is a great weapon. We put about three hundred rounds through it, and had only one stove pipe, personally I think it was a bad round, and not an issue with the weapon. All rounds were 9mm FMJ with the exception of 10 rounds which were JHP. All fed without issue, and the weapon shot pretty true. NOTE: Make sure the front sight is extra snug, as it did work loose during the day. Weapon was easy to clean, although I am having an issue removing the rear peep sight so that I can install the scope. Will contact Hi Point Customer Service to see if they can assist me. Weapon got to FFL relatively fast, although my second weapon the .45 Carbine still has not arrived. Contacted ukrguns about this, and they replied that since it was coming from a different warehouse it would take longer. Will review it when I get it and let you all know. Thanks to everyone who reviewed this weapon and ukrguns, as this was one of the main deceiding factors for my puchasing of the weapon and using ukrguns.

I really hate to give this just 4 stars but I would recommend going for the red dot over this scope version of the Hi-Point 9mm Carbine. The adjustments on the scope are pretty difficult to move when trying to sight it in. I ended up purchasing a red dot for $20 to replace the scope. The sights that came pre installed were probably good enough for just plinking, but this was for the wife and she wanted the red dot. Other than that, the gun shoots and operated awesome!!!! I would highly recommend the gun. It’s fun and very CHEAP to shoot 🙂
