I love this rifle scope easy to mount is Tabor side and zero and overall good clear sight picture.
Gary Fields –
Extremely Good Rifle Scope!!!! I have it on a Ruger 22Mag and have used it in many day-time conditions and it performed extremely well. I believe it’s 2X better than the Nikon that I used to have on the Gun. For the Cost and Price Point…..Vortex is my First Choice.
Phil –
I had trouble with the full image staying clear from 9 – 12 power. The center stayed clear, but increasingly smaller as I dailed it up to 12. From 4-9 it is great. The eye relief is a bit fussy as well; I found a Leupold 3-9 to be more forgiving if you don’t get your eye to the exact distance from the scope. You can be VERY happy with this scope. I could have been a bit happier.
Earl S. –
For the money beats old Redfield for 1/2 the price
Will –
the 1.75 magnification allows you to really see a target quickly as the entire eye piece seems to open up. perfect for 3 gun and close shooting. then turn it up to 5 and now you can shoot further. I previously was using a 4 x 9 and once i saw how much better this scope was at quickly acquiring a target i had to have it.
Felipe J. Viera –
It’s a great scope. Out of the box and to the range. It needed zero dialing in. I had issues with the bikini cover being cracked. I sent an email and I was promptly responded to within the time frame giving. I received a replacement shortly after. Costumer service is priority on my list. I would’ve returned the whole order with not so good customer service. Thanks again ukrguns.
Shred –
Absolutely love this scope! Super clear, bright, and well made. I would recommend this scope to anyone as I have compared and looked through many other more expensive brands that are no better. I would also recommend that you buy Scope covers (say Butler Creek, or…) as the ones supplied with the scope are not that great and seem too fragile.
Caleb Denton –
This is a nice scope for the money, works well for an all around deer hunter, as far as competitive I wouldn’t use this as my first choice. The warranty with Vortex can not be beat. The 50 mm lens makes a huge difference in the amount of light the scope lets in especially at dusk when you need it. Will continue to use on 270 WSM, this scope can also handle the recoil, but a good set of scope rings is key to insuring that the scope remains zeroed in. Would purchase again!
Robert Brinson –
Scope is built solid very clear and sharp images. Cove Creek outfitters is a awesome seller to deal with. I had one small issue with my purchase and they took care of it right away. Thank you
Randy H. –
Hard to beat these scopes for the price. I’ve added this to a couple of rifles after using a set of diamondback binoculars while hunting whitetails in Michigan for a couple of years. I have nicer scopes, but they cost 3x+ as this and in hunting conditions they don’t delivery anything this scope can out to practical shooting distances. The Vortex warranty is highly touted, but the best thing I can say about it so far is that I haven’t needed to test it as I haven’t had any problems with their products that would require repair.
Heisenburg –
Very good quality for the price. Mounted on saint AR. Zeroed easy and holds zero so far.
stacie turnes –
Lens caps for scope was broken upon delivery. Company had new caps within 2 days delivered and was very helpful and immediate response. Will purchase from again!
Jeff Bibby –
This is my 2nd Vortex scope in the past 8 months. This is a great middle of the road scope and serves it purpose very well. This one went on my grandsons .243. The clarity is very good. Holds a zero just as well. Would not hesitate to buy another one.
Scott Lee –
I have been using Vortex scopes for a long time and love them. This is the first time I have ever bought a scope that when it gets to me, the box was in perfect condition, the scope was packaged fine but the bell end of the scope cover clear plastic was busted and stuck in the end of the scope. This was clearly packaged with it broke. Evidently their QC people are not paying very close attention
Daniel –
Vortex markets this scope as the inexpensive alternative that rivals others in higher price range. Credit given where due, it is exceptionally accurate and holds zero. But it also very uncomfortable to use. The eye relief is very unforgiving. You will find yourself creeping your cheek weld forward and back by mm’s struggling to find the sweetspot where the view is good. And after even just a few minutes of scanning around for ground squirrels or whatever else you are looking for you gotta step away and recover. It is a quality product, well built, great price. But not at all comfortable to use for more than a few rounds. I paid $100 and $20 for rings. Used once at range once on whistle pigs. Will be happy if can get a pawn broker to give me $100, but would take less.
James H –
The scope works great. Only downside is there’s no available sunshade for this particular model.
G. B. C. –
Regrettably, this scope had very poor focus at 100 yards and unacceptable at all at 50 yards. Sorry..I have a previous purchase of the “Sonora” model from Vortex Optics and I’m ordering a 2nd one of those. I had hoped the “Diamondback” would exceed the Sonora model but it’s just way inferior. My opinion.
High Tech Redneck –
I mounted this scope on a Remington 7mm-08. I love how much light this scope allows in. I am literally getting to sit 30 minutes long in my stand because of visibility now versus the Weaver scope I replaced. The reticles are great. I just took my rifle out again this week to check the scope before season and it was still set perfectly. I am buying another one for a rifle I am getting my wife for Christmas.
Min Kim –
I zeroed the scope last week and was on point at hitting my half-inch target. The eye relief is excellent and the overall quality of the product is top notch. I moved to 200 yds and was able to hit my target 18 out of 20 times. That shouldn’t take away from the scope though. I was in a rush and was shooting fast. I zoomed out to 12x and the view was still crystal clear.
Teeky –
Great product. You can not loose with Vortex.
C. Dalton –
The shipping was relatively fast and was properly packaged. The scope itself was a let down. It is not as clear and defined as the comparable Leupold or Burris which was disappointing after all the hype about Vortex quality. I’m guessing their top end scopes are better, but there are considerably better choices for the same amount of money.
Topher –
WOW. This thing is great. I Went and looked at it at Bass pro ($220+ tax there) before finding it here for much less. What a great scope. Crisp and clear! Vortex really got it right with this one. I’m going to buy another to put on my other rifle.
Gil –
There’s a reason for that! The crucial parts of a riflescope are glass quality, and reticle, the others are important too, but if the glass and reticle are not as they should be, the other things won’t make much difference. Vortex scopes are consistently high quality through-and-though. I have owned both First Focal Plane (FFP )and Second Focal Plane (SFP) Vortex scopes, but for shooting 1,000 yard targets from a bench, I prefer the Vortex Diamondback SFP scopes 4-12X44. My reasoning for that preference, at that range, is that SFP scopes maintain the same reticle size throughout their magnification power range, whereas the reticle of an FFP scope gets smaller as you increase magnification power. I find the shrinking reticle to be unsatisfactory at long ranges. At maximum power (12X for this scope) the 1,000 yard image is presented as if it were only at 83.3 yards. The Vortex Diamondback 4-12X44, is as close to perfect as a human being could make a scope, and VERY affordable for excellent quality! I have no complaints about this scope… but then, I have had no complaints about any of my 8 Vortex optics.
Amanda Barrera Ferguson –
Replaced a leupold Mark AR with this, and could not be happier. Good clear glass. The reticle is great. Nice audible clicks and the turrets reset under the caps. This is best bang for your buck.
Invader1956 –
I don’t do many reviews but, I have to do this one. This scope has met my expectations upon the reviews I have read. Only about 200 rounds of 308 thru the rifle with it but still proving good. We shall see down the road. The clarity is as good as others are saying I suppose. But my one minor complaint is that at magnification 12, it becomes a little blurry…..hey my eyes are done with iron sights too, as I am almost 60 years old.
You can say in a phrase, I am a Vortex fan!
Jshell3 –
I’ve looked through many many scopes. I’ve read forums, atop of forums about optics and features. I’ve question actual value v/s perceived value. Namebrand (brain washing) aside, I chose THIS scope!
It’s good. It’s really, really good.
I own other scopes and other rifles… But for a deer hunting rifle (mine’s a 270win), you will not need or find a sub $200 scope better than this DIAMONDBACK. If you decide to go to a higher priced scope, you’re doing it for the wrong reasons. It’s money wasted. Pure and simple.
The Bullet Drop Compensation… BDC reticle gives great advantage to 200, 300, 400, 500 yrd shots. Set your Zero at 100 yards, then each +100 distance is designated by a hash mark (MOA) on the scope.
Zero rest turrets for windage and elevation.
Oh, and a slight side note… I shoot a long action Savage 110. This scope (barely) fit spanning the 6″ distance between the 2 piece base and using “HIGH” Weaver rings (as shown).
Alexandra Murphy –
I really love the scope. Very crisp, clean design and clarity. However, I would think about how it gets packaged. The silicone pack was places on the front of the scope lens cover which caused the cover to break. There is a full crack the entire way across the cover, and there is a huge gap in the plastic cover. I’m just glad it did not break the lens of the scope or scratch it, but I will need to invest in a new cap cover.
SF67n20 –
I have no issues with this scope being an excellent instrument . My issue was with the delivery system. The scope ended up in a customs hold for a couple of weeks , and my needs frustrated me to order another scope made in the USA . The UPS official said it may be some time before being released . Then suddenly a delivery time brought it to me even before the newest scope arrived. Now the quandary . I am returning the Vortex without actually giving it a good report for usage . Scope is still tops for the brand. I’m sorry all things went this way. The painless part is Amazon’s absolute return policy. Over the top Great service ! Imagine going back to the catalogue days . Whew !
Newbold –
Excellent Scope! I have always outfitted my rifles with Leupold VX-2 scopes until I tried one of these on a Ruger Hawkeye 30-06. I believe the Vortex is superior to the Leupold and it costs less. My wife, son and myself harvested several deer using this scope this year. I even had a sling break causing the rifle to fall off my shoulder and onto the gravel road I was walking on. The scope hit hard enough it suffered some scratches but was still dead on! You can’t go go wrong with this scope.
donutman415 –
This scope was worth every penny and more. I have it mounted with some regular vortex mounts. The 4-12×44 is perfect for me I have it on a aero precision upper in 5.56/.223 with a heavy 18″ barrel. Its easy to dial in and you dont have to struggle to adjust it. Also the glass is very clear even at full power. Now i just started shooting long range and I’m not the best shooter but I can hold my own. Thanks to the range master and YouTube for the quick class in shooting. I didnt want to go all out on a scope so when i seen this for $199.99 I had to get it. If it came with flip up lens cap it would have gotten a 5 star
JNess –
The scope feels and looks like quality because it is. Mounted up on the rifle great and has been holding zero on a 350 Legend. The rifle rides around in a soft case bouncing around in the back seat on the way to go hunting and keeps its zero. It’s not the cheapest scope out there but for the money you get more than what you pay for. Optics are clear and bright.
James Putnam –
I love everything about this scope except the BDC reticle. The reticle isn’t like the others I have on my muzzleloader or other slug guns. The hash marks seem pretty small and takes your focus off the target, but man is this scope clear!!
raven –
My first scope with magnification…
Very solid, reasonably simple and no frills. Holds zero well, and though I’ve never had to make use of it, I love the warranty Vortex carries. If you’re not familiar, look it up.
I have this scope mounted on my AR-15 build in 6.5 Grendel, and have been able to reliably hit a target out to 750 yards (although being zeroed at 100 yards, the bullet drop does go somewhat lower than the hash marks…)
Roadcarver –
Awesome price. Got it for $236 with free delivery via Amazon it was poorly package and it wasn’t working well i later on bought it here for a $100 and it works just perfect. Easy setup with the Savage 10TR rifle. Used in conjunction with the Burris Zee rings. 1/4 MOA, dials have audible and tactile feel when turning the turrets. The clarity is superb, can see clearly at night even at the maximum x12 magnification. One of the selling features with Vortex is their bullet proof guarantee. Can’t go wrong!
S –
I used this scope on my .270 Tikka T3 lite at just under 200 yrds this past fall and it scored me my first white tail. The clarity on this scope is awesome and I haven’t had any issues with it. I bought all my mounting equipment at Cabelas and they helped me mount the scope on my rifle for me. Vortex has an awesome warranty and really good quality products. I did a lot of research when looking for my scope and this one seemed to be a great price and overall quality was worth it. I would definitely recommend it to anyone at all shooting levels.
Warren G –
This scope exceeded my expectations in more ways than one. First off, the clarity and range of the scope matches scopes that cost twice as much. I had low-to-fair expectations in terms of accuracy… It’s held zero on my AR10 for over 400 rounds. I love that the zoom has a thumb-friendly throw… no need to add weird zip-tie configurations to make it cold-weather and glove friendly. Adjusting the sights is a breeze, with assertive clicks as you adjust the crosshairs, with each click equalling about 1/4 MOA. Clicks are not soft or mushy feeling, at all. I highly recommend this scope…. it’s on par with my old Leupold.
J –
As good as advertised. Don’t hesitate like I did. The price is perfect and so is this scope.
The camper/boarder –
Went to Canadian tire store, got Leopold rings, installed on xbolt, very very nice. Very clear and crisp image, recommended by several guys I work with. 1inch rings are required for install.
Matthew Epps –
I bought it in 4-12×40 for my new Thompson-Center Compass in .308. I mounted it with standard steel scope rings and got it zeroed in just a few rounds. Combined with the Compass, I was able to shoot smaller than one inch groups at 100 yards.
Adam –
Box stores sell these for $200 plus, it was 100 on ukrguns!!!
This is the second Vortex 4-12×40 scope I own. Have had one since 2016 on a .308 Tikka and have never looked back.
Put this one on a Savage .350 legend and sighted it in last week. It’s no different then my first one. Clear as glass and easy to adjust and use!!!
I like nice things, id consider this a nice scope.
Prior Military and law enforcement…..I recommend this Vortex scope.
J.O. –
Ive heard tons of great stuff about Vortex so decided to try the Kool-Aid. Optics are clear, and Vortex definitely makes quality optics but the eye relief on the Diamondback is horrible. Mine is mounted on an AR, so the recoil makes the eye relief tolerable, but a friend has one on a 30-06, and hes been scope eyed several times in the last two years.
Chuck –
The scope appears to be fine visibly but the lens cover was broken. Honestly for this quality of a scope it should have come with flip up lens covers. Just sucks that I will have to worry about the lens when going to and from hunting areas. If it gets replaced and the scope works like it should I will be extatic to change my review.
KUJayhawk –
I think the Diamondback series is good value. Glass clarity and color is really hard to discern with other optics about $400 range. And I can tell a difference upgrading my rifle that wore a budget optic around $100 (I won’t specify which to bash, only to explain that this is good for the $).
Kindle Customer –
Great scope at a very good price. Have used this score for the past four years and continue to appreciate the optics and dead hold BDC!
ALB –
mounted this on my Browning Bar MK1 300 WinMag.
Unbelievable clarity, and a lot brighter than my Nikon scope on my other rifle.
Magnification good, holds reticle focus nicely from 4 right through to 12X.
So far 50 rounds through it, and a few trips to the range and it is holding zero good.
Will buy another for my next rifle.
Michael Harbaugh –
I cannot yet comment on how the scope performs, but I can attest that Vortex is an awesome company and super easy to work with. I received my scope and the bikini dust cover was cracked – no big deal, but I was bummed! Sent them an email on Saturday, and first thing Monday morning they were asking me for an address so they could send me out another. Just got home to my brand new dust cover and a complimentary Vortex baseball cap.
PD Sniper –
Great hunting scope in this price range, it’s quality exceeds any others I have used in this price range (and I think I’ve tried them all at one time or another) Excellent Warranty policy, but I haven’t had to use it yet. I have 6 of this particular model and NO complaints
Susan Studwell –
First scope I ordered had a defect where a spot on the inside of the tube was not painted black when sun hit that shiny silver spot it looked like there was an object floating around in the tube, not good returned that one. Second one I ordered to replace the first one came with a broken lens cover, shipping box was not damaged however. Doesn’t leave me white piece of mind… usually if something is broken that means it got hit pretty good. NOT good for any scope. Not sure what to do do I trust this one isn’t damaged internally? I’d prefer not to have to wait for the THIRD replacement. I’ve heard good things from everyone about vortex, this is my first vortex scope. First impression is pretty so so.
Rane H. –
This company was great to work with! I had a problem with the lens cover and they got it taken care of. Was able to give my customer the rifle complete. Thank you and I will be buying again.
Chris Keaton –
Can see at dawn or dusk with no problem. Crystal clear. I like it better than my buddys $1000 scope. Had a glare on my first scope after a few uses emailed vortex and had a brand new one delivered the next morning. Great customer service.
Matthew R. Haines –
For the price this is hard to beat. Having a 3.5x bottom end really opens up the field of view and a 50mm objective allows a lot of light to come in for those early morning/late night hunting sessions. My only complaint is the eye relief, too short and doesn’t allow for any head movement. Only took off 1 star because for the price idk that it can be beat.
Mountain Man –
I purchased this scope for my .338 Browning X-bolt, and I am extremely happy with the shooting results, as Vortex scope providing crisp and clear image for close and far targets. Hash marks bellow the cross hair accurately supporting the distance and was very helpful in my mountain goat and white tail hunting. |Will see in this year moose hunting, but I have no doubt! Affordable price and fast shipping by ukrguns! THANK YOU
